Education is the bane to many of us.
We are all brought up in a society which demands we know certain basic details. Most of which we can no doubt learn for ourselves. And my issues of education do not lie in the National Curriculum although it should because they forced me and many others to partake in the worst 13 years we may ever have.
Instead my current issue is with the universities.
After 14 years in school, possibly more for those of you who went to nursery many of us decide that we are to venture on into the big wide world the only way we know how....via education. For many this is fine, we pick a course we have an interest in and if we are luckily at a university we will like. The problem is that not everyone makes it, some dont even make it through freshers week.
However for many of us uni provides some of the best years of our lives, we have fun, meet new people but eventually this too comes to an end. And here lies my issue....
Thousands of people each year are faced with the greatest dilemma of their lives. More so than applying to university the first time. That time round we had help, however 3 years later we are deemed to be old enough to plan our own lives. In fact thats all wrong, 3 years has taught us little. It doesnt matter what we've been through nearly all of us just need a little guidance at somepoint.
Some of us though, foolishly applied to stay in education, essentially fearing the outside world. More miracularly some of us actually got offers, and even to uni's we didn't think would give us a second glance.
This moves us on to York Uni.
I am by no means the first person to go to york. in fact many of my friends have gone to york...well besides the mass of friends who seemingly followed me to Huddersfield.
Anyway, for years a group of us have discussed how those who went to York uni 'changed' and left very different people than the ones we originally knew.
This idea has often puzzled me what was so different to them at uni that changed them so dramatically, that didnt apply to anyone else anywhere else.
It wasn't until those 'fortunate' or rather unfortunate enough to go finally arrived.
YORK IS SOUL DESTROYING!
It is only as someone who has seen a different world has it become so obvious the destructive nature of the university. Now i can by no means put my finger on what it is that destroys people, but lately i have developed this gut feeling and i can see it on peoples faces how their will power is slowly being taken away and they become zombies to society.
Sadly this isn't quite where i was going with this but at least it went somewhere,
there is far more to be said on this topic but i think its best to save it for another time.
